Project Pirogue – for a better world..
Why the project ?
If you leave in Madagascar close to the shore, soon you’ll realise that a pirogue is the very tool for a person to feed his family and most times his relatives.
After a while you’ll realised that a pirogue last in average 3 years, so every 3 years the person fishing for everyone need to buy a new pirogue.
to build this new pirogue the carpenter will go into the jungle and choose a tree that need to be at least 30 years old !
let this think a little, every 3 years every person that fish need to cut a 30years + tree in order to feed his relatives…
Having a boat building background and being aware of the value of a 30 years old tree I can not let this slide. this is why the project way born.
But there is more !
We leave close to a village where everyone has been nice to us, one person in particular, one of the oldest man, like many he had his own pirogue and was fishing to feed his relatives, like many of them he used it to the end, last year we lost him, the pirogue baroque and he creamed for his life between Nosy-be and Nosy-komba no one thought he was drowning, and every one regret this day, this is not a rare story, many of those people do not know how to swim, a fiver glass pirogue won’t break, better yet it can be made to float even if it broke.
Advantages
The newly design and fibre glass can be made to last one person life and beyond saving 15 trees and more for each pirogue that we build, it can be made in a way that it can’t sink saving many people from deadly accidents, and it can be repaired to last many generation. that has a cost, and the cost is that we do not really know how to get rid of fibre glass, many advantages one disadvantage.

The Idea behind the Project Pirogue is not only – Make a pirogue, feed people, save life, no that’s a given, the Idea is to teach the people of Madagascar how to make Pirogues and repair them using fibre glass and composition material technology
